In this talk, Dr. Jason Sutherland will present his perspectives on the varied and bumpy road to policy-oriented health services research in Canada. Focusing on his past and future policy directions, research activities and student supervision, he will discuss his past missed opportunities and open the door to discussion regarding future directions in healthcare policy and set the stage for student-led policy engagement.
Dr. Sutherland is Program Head of Health Services and Outcomes at Advancing Health, Interim Director of CHSPR, and Division Head, Health Services and Policy, in the School of Population and Public Health. His research spans two complementary themes: health system funding policy and patients’ outcomes from surgery. Dr. Sutherland has been active in advising provincial and federal governments on healthcare funding policy.
