Dr. Wei Zhang’s research aim is to integrate theoretical and empirical findings with health policies, services, and practices.

She has a strong background in economics and is focused on applying economic theories and methods to address health research questions.
Her primary research interests include measurement and valuation of work productivity loss due to illness, economic evaluation of health care interventions, and pharmaceutical policy.
Dr. Zhang joined Advancing Health in 2006. Prior to that, she worked as a health economist at Elizabeth Bruyère Research Institute in Ottawa. She earned her master’s degree in Economics from the University of Ottawa in 2003. After completing her Ph.D. in the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2013, Dr. Zhang started her postdoctoral training at Advancing Health and UBC and, in 2017, became a Advancing Health Scientist and an Assistant Professor at SPPH. Today, Dr. Zhang is Program Head of Advancing Health’s Health Economics Program.
