More than two-thirds of CVD risk in OA linked to NSAID use
CHÉOS Director Dr. Aslam Anis and fellow researchers estimated the effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), a key component of treatment for osteoarthritis, on the relationship between the osteoarthritis and cardiovascular disease. They found that NSAIDs significantly increase the risk of congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease, and stroke in those with osteoarthritis. Dr. Anis spoke about his research in a press release at the Annual European Congress of Rheumatology and several news outlets including Healio, Medical Xpress, News-Medical.Net, and Rheumatology Advisor reported on the findings.
