Sleep research leading to discoveries

Dr. Najib Ayas was quoted in a CTV News story about World Sleep Day and sleep-disordered breathing. Dr. Ayas spoke about his new Canada-wide study that is looking at the various markers that can predict future medical conditions in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. Similar stories about Dr. Ayas and his research appeared in the Columbia Valley Pioneer and the Vernon Morning Star.

 

 

 

Declining number of family doctors in BC

Dr. Rita McCracken was interviewed by CBC News about the findings and implications of the Models & Access Atlas of Primary Care (MAAP) Study in BC. Dr. McCracken spoke about the shift away from family medicine seen in younger medical school graduates and possible changes to provincial care models.

 

 

 

 

Rise in kidney disease shows no signs up slowing

For World Kidney Day (March 14), Dr. Adeera Levin, Past President of International Society of Nephrology, was quoted in a story about the increasing burden of kidney diseases worldwide. She said that 10 per cent of men and 12 per cent of women globally are affected by chronic kidney disease and up to 10.5 million people need dialysis or kidney transplant. The story appeared in The Guardian.

 

World-class kidney care and research at St. Paul’s

In her role as a nephrologist at St. Paul’s Hospital, Dr. Monica Beaulieu was interviewed for a story in Promise magazine and The Daily Scan. Dr. Beaulieu spoke about the details of the comprehensive renal care at PHC and about the importance of research and collaboration with other specialists to prevent kidney disease and minimize health complications.
