Ms. Hoens received her B.Sc. in Physical Therapy from UBC and her postgraduate degrees (M.Sc. and DipSportsPT) from Curtin University in Perth, Australia. In addition, she has specialized training in knowledge translation and facilitating behaviour change. Ms. Hoens has undertaken clinical, teaching, and research activities in physical therapy and interdisciplinary spheres provincially, nationally, and internationally. At PHC she is responsible for research, education, and evidence-based practice support for over 130 Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistants across the spectrum of acute, rehabilitation, and residential care settings. In her role as Knowledge Broker she has facilitated partnerships in over 65 projects between more than 500 researchers, clinicians, decision makers, and patients in clinically relevant research and in the development of resources and tools to support evidence-informed practice. These partnerships have been successful in procuring over $17 million in research funding. The 22resources and tools that have been developed to support clinical practice have been accessed over 600,000 times worldwide.

Ms. Hoens is the recipient of many awards and recognition, including the 2018 Enid Graham Memorial Award (the highest award awarded bi-annually by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association [CPA]), the 2018 and 2016 Silver Quill Awards from the CPA for outstanding manuscripts.
