Amy Salmon
Centre Associate Director, PHD
Dr. Amy Salmon has an extensive career as a researcher, front-line worker, and health care administrator. Her current areas of research include health system developmental evaluation and knowledge mobilization, emphasizing service delivery and system transformation in seniors care, mental health and substance use services, and integrated community care settings. She leads the Advancing Health Seniors Care Research Group, whose current work supports health system decision-making in implementing innovative social-relational models in long-term care (such as the “dementia village model”) as well as understanding the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of direct care providers. She holds her Ph.D. in Educational Studies from UBC, where she specialized in sociology and health education.

Dr. Salmon currently holds academic appointments as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) School of Population and Public Health. She is also the FLEX Site Co-Director for the Vancouver-Fraser Medical Program.
Dr. Salmon has worked as an invited consultant for local, provincial and federal governments, and with numerous grassroots organizations, to conduct evaluations and develop programs, policy recommendations, and advocacy interventions concerned with the health and well-being of people who use substances and seniors.
Her research has been funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Alberta Innovates Health Solutions, The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch, Health Canada, and the Victoria Foundation.
