Greg Werker

Dr. Greg Werker’s research lies in operations research health care, with a focus on strategic planning in mental health and addiction treatment.

- Network modelling of patient flow
His areas of interest include health system optimization, network modelling of patient flow through treatment pathways, and the queuing theory and optimization tools that support these efforts.
As a full-time lecturer at the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the Operations and Logistics division, Dr. Werker teaches large undergraduate classes on quantitative decision-making and on introductory statistics. He also leads MBA courses on supply chain analytics, introductory operations, and product and services management, bringing examples from his research into the classroom whenever possible.
Dr. Werker has a Ph.D. in Management Science from the Sauder School of Business at UBC. His dissertation explored strategic planning under uncertainty in two applications: workforce planning at the B.C. Cancer Agency (BCCA) and resource planning in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. He has also worked on other planning applications at the BCCA and is involved in research on demographics and health service usage within urban populations with addictions and concurrent disorders. His BS and M.Eng. degrees are both in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University, and he has worked as an operations research consultant and a software engineer in various manufacturing sectors including food and beverages, semiconductor, and chemicals.
