Martha Mackay
Scientist, PHD, RN CCN(C)
Dr. Martha Mackay is currently a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC) School of Nursing, where she is also the KM MacMillan Nursing Research Scholar.
She has been practicing nursing for more than 40 years in critical care and cardiac nursing, with many years as a critical care nursing educator, and 25 years as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Cardiology.
Her initial nursing education was at George Brown College in Toronto, and she has since earned her BSN, MSN, and Ph.D. degrees at UBC.
She has received a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Clinical Research Fellowship, the Cardiac Services B.C. Fellowship in Cardiovascular Outcomes, a Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada Research Scholarship, a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar Award and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Embedded Clinician-Researcher award, as well as research grants from these agencies. Her research focuses on social and behavioural factors in cardiac health, including sex/gender and ethnic differences in symptoms, treatment-seeking behaviour, and outcomes following a heart attack and cardiac procedures; and interventions for cardiac patients who have depression and other cardiac risk factors.
